Yamaha, having been absent of the commuter segment for long, has launched the Saluto RX targeting that market. Priced at Rs 46,400 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the 110cc Saluto RX is Rs 8,000 cheaper than the 125cc Saluto. While the RX name might bring forth warm memories of Yamaha’s two-stroke past, the Saluto RX makes do with a good old four-stroke, with the 110cc carburetted single cylinder is rated at 7.37 bhp and .87 kgm.  Considering that the Saluto RX weighs only 98 kg dry, it should be sprightly off the line atleast.

While the 7.2 litre fuel tank is on the lower side, the Saluto RX’s claimed 82 kmpl fuel efficiency figure should give it a decent range. There is no option for disc brakes, with drums all around and the gearbox is a four speeder unit. At the price, its closest competitors are the Hero Honda Splendor Pro and the Passion Pro, but considering the vice link grip that they have on the commuter segment, the Saluto RX has its work cut out for it.
