Flagship luxury saloons are all about cosseting their passengers, making quick progress, and even showboating a little. But as far BMW’s definition goes, it’s all about making the one behind the wheel happy, in addition to the aforementioned points. And that’s where the newly announced BMW M760Li xDrive fits in.
Powered by a 6.6-litre V12 petrol engine, the M760Li manages to hit the 100 kph in 3.7 seconds. Thanks in part to the 600 bhp and 81.5 kgm, and of course the all-wheel drive traction of the xDrive system. The top-speed is, as with most BMWs, limited to 250 kph, but with the optional M Driver’s Package, the speed limited only kicks in at 305 kph.
The all-wheel drive system is rear-biased, and to complement that (and thus make the car more driveable) is the rear-wheel steering. Elsewhere it’s the usual 7-Series affair, turned to a eleven. Unsurprisingly with all that luxury and power, the car weighs a smidgen over two tonnes.
There are tell-tale signs which distinguish the car from its lesser siblings, including multiple V12 badges, including an illuminated one in the door sill plates. Cerium Grey is the colour of choice for accents, badges, wheels, grille, etc.
It’s hardly a Q-car, the M760Li, but you can make it a tad more luxury-orientated, if your monthly schedule includes more trips to boardrooms. For that, there’s a no-cost ‘Excellence’ package available. By choosing it, you lose the M sport exhaust and M aerodynamic package kit. Instead you would get bespoke 20-inch wheels, a ‘comfort-biased’ exhaust, and a lot of chrome. Sparing no chance to put another V12 badge, BMW will add one on the boot lid, should you choose the M…(or no M)760Li Excellence.
We’ve picked which one we want (if BMW decide to bring one to India), but the more important question is whether Jason Statham has thought about making another Transporter film already…
