Based on which is the Scrambler Desert Sled, a motorcycle perfect for, in Ducati’s words, “soft off-road’ adventure riding. It’s been launched in India, at Rs 9.32 lakh, ex-showroom.
Atop the Scrambler base bike, the Desert Sled offers a modified chassis, a 200 mm of travel on both front and rear suspensions, off-road style foot pegs (with removable rubber pads) and a standard higher seat — although you can opt for a 20 mm low seat, too. The high-set mudguards are complemented by a head lamp mesh, an engine skid plate, and Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres mounted on spoked wheels (19-inch up front and 17-incher at the rear).
The 803 cc L-twin engine (Euro IV compliant now) makes 74 bhp at 8,250 rpm and 6.93 kgm at 5,750 rpm. The ABS-equipped (Bosch 9.1 MP ABS) Brembo braking system has a 330 mm disc at the front wheel and a 245 mm one at the rear.
The bike is available in two colours — Red Dusk and White Mirage — at Rs 9.32 lakh and Rs 9.45 lakh respectively. In addition, the Euro IV engined variants of the Scrambler Icon and Scrambler Classic are available, too, priced at Rs 7.32 lakh and Rs 8.48 lakh respectively.
Ducati India’s MD, Sergi Canovas Garriga said, “We’ve introduced for the first time in India, a motorcycle in the ‘easy off-road’ category. Staying true to the Scrambler family and inspiration from the ’60s and ’70s, California motorcycle scene, the Desert Sled reinforces the pure essence of motorcycling: two wheels, wide handlebars, a straightforward engine and endless fun. The bike is perfect for the city and to get off the tarmac and explore the road less travelled.”
