If you’re interested in the Range Rover brand, then it’s certain that you know how the Velar got its name. It won’t be surprising if you know that it’s also the best-looking Land Rover product now, and that it’s positioned atop the Evoque but below the Range Rover duo. What we don’t know though is how the British marque has managed to price it so well. At Rs 78.83 lakh onwards, the Velar can be bought now, with deliveries beginning from January.
There are three engine options to choose from: a 2-litre petrol (246.7 bhp), a 2-litre diesel (177 bhp), and a 3-litre diesel V6 (296 bhp). Like the rest of the range, AWD and automatic transmission both are expected to be standard across the line-up.
Those looking for exclusivity can opt for the range-topping First Edition trim, which, in the 3-litre-V6-engined guise will cost around Rs 1.37 crore. On the other end of the spectrum, both the base versions (petrol and diesel) are priced at an identical Rs 78.83 lakh. In terms of options, there are the regular, R-Dynamic, and aforementioned variants. On top of which, you can select between regular, S, SE, and HSE trims.
President and MD, JLR India, Rohit Suri said, “The New Range Rover Velar is a symbol of sophisticated design, well-crafted interior, innovative features and technologies, backed by powerful and efficient powertrains. We are extremely delighted to bring the highly awaited and one of the most desirable SUVs with many of our customers are looking forward to own and drive.”
Price-wise, the Velar sits very close to the recently launched Land Rover Discovery, which is priced at Rs 71.38 lakh, ex-showroom. The Evoque is priced at Rs 44.44 lakh onwards, while the Range Rover Sport’s range begins at Rs 93.82 lakh.
