Continuing the great legacy of racing DNA that was first witnessed with the YZF-R1 in 1998, Yamaha has now launched the third version of the YZF-R15 in India at the Auto Expo 2018. Yamaha’s smallest faired motorcycle for India now comes with a 155 cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected motor that is now tuned to produce 19 bhp and 1.52 kgm and comes mated to the 6-speed gearbox.
With the version 3.0, Yamaha has introduced the Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) system in India on the YZF-R15 which allows linear acceleration with a high-performance character along with sharper throttle response. The motorcycle also gets an Assist & Slipper (A&S) clutch which helps to reduce the weight of the clutch pull and provides easier downshifts during deceleration. Using the same Delta box frame, the new YZF-R15 is now a more powerful, feature rich and sportier motorcycle to own.
Design-wise, the YZF-R15 adopts its styling cues from its elder siblings, the YZF-R1 and YZF-R6, giving the motorcycle an even sportier and aggressive look. The motorcycle now features an LED headlamp and tail lamp, a fully digital instrument console with a gear position indicator and shift light and a new muffler design with 3-stage expansion and a 3-way catalytic converter. Yamaha is also offering the R15 with an optional Racing Kit that consists of Metzeler tyres, Daytona muffler, winglets on side fairing and frame sliders.
Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Yamaha Motor India, Roy Kurian, said, “The inheritance of R-DNA inflicts upon an extraordinary pursuit of technology and performance; precisely it’s what the Yamaha’s R Series is all about. Pushing off with innumerable race victories, this unbeatable combination of power and performance is now ready for India. The YZF-R15 (Version 3.0) will offer an enthralling technology and enormous riding attitude to the customers, whereas the additional purchase option of “Racing Kit” consisting of Metzeler tyre will perk up the overall experience for the racing enthusiasts.”
