Sat comfortably somewhere in the middle of the luxury car segment is the Italian carmaker Maserati. The company is on a spree of launching the latest of its products, and the latest is the 2018 Maserati Ghibli. Available in the diesel-only avatar, the Ghibli is priced at Rs 1.33 crore onwards.
There are two trims available, namely the GranLusso and GranSport. The names are almost self-explanatory, but for starters, the GranLusso is luxury-orientated while the GranSport is said to reflect the company illustrious past in motorsport.
Made in collaboration with VM Motori, the 3-litre V6 diesel engine in the Ghibli (regardless of the trim and leather choice) makes 271 bhp and 61.22 kgm. It manages a 0-100 kph sprint in just 6.3 seconds while the top speed is said to be 250 kph, claims the company. In addition, the average fuel consumption figure, claimed of course, of 5.9 litres per 100 km gives the car a 1000-km range, and the CO2 levels are well-contained, too, at 158 g/km.
The ‘new’ car is more aerodynamic (Cd drops to 0.29), comes with restyled bumpers, adaptive LED headlamps, Skyhook suspension system, Integrated Vehicle Control, etc. The company claims that the move to EPS doesn’t hamper the classic razor-sharp steering feel. Good; we won’t mind testing one as soon as possible.
The base Ghibli, as mentioned above, is priced at Rs 1.33 crore, the GranSport derivate at Rs 1.38 crore, and the GanLusso at 1.42 crores.
Maserati India’s Head of Operations, Bojan Jankulovski said, “The new Ghibli stands out for its bold design and progressive technology. And, since the Ghibli has proved to be really successful for Maserati over the years, the new upgraded version will further enable us to pursue its success story.”
