Suzuki and Toyota have signed an agreement which allows the sale of certain Suzuki products using the Toyota brand and vice-versa. This will enhance each carmaker’s appeal thanks to a wider line up.
The agreement enables the supply of hybrid and other vehicles between the two manufacturers. Toyota will supply its hugely popular car, the Corolla, to Suzuki. While on the other hand Suzuki will have its Baleno hatchback and Vitara Brezza sub-compact SUV sent to Toyota.
That’s all the details shared by the two manufacturers for now. The press announcement also mentions that an increased level of localisation will be achieved, and that both companies are committed to selling vehicles that consume less fuel, in order to help India reduce its environmental footprint.
A launch timeline is still not out yet, but it can be before the duo begins to share technologies for introducing EVs in the year 2020, as decided in November last year. The two Japanese carmakers had first got into a formal collaboration in February 2017.
