The next-generation of the i20 has been long awaited and it’s finally here. And it packs quite a punch as far as features are concerned.
The most exciting bit of the i20 is the different powertrains on offer. There is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine offered in two states of tune: 82 bhp and 11.7 kgm of torque paired to a 5-speed manual ‘box and 87 bhp and 11.7 kgm of torque paired to an IVT gearbox. Hyundai’s also borrowed the Venue’s 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine in its 118 bhp and 17.5 kgm state of tune. It can be paired with either a 7-speed DCT or a 6-speed iMT. This is a great combination, but a manual gearbox would have been even better. For highway efficiency and long range, there’s also a 1.5-litre diesel engine on offer, producing 99 bhp and 24.5 kgm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels by a 6-speed manual gearbox only, with no automatic gearbox on offer. Basically, the i20 offers enough powertrain options for every customer’s needs.
Coming to the long list of features and some are first-in-segment as well. The exteriors of the Hyundai look sharper than ever with lots of cuts and creases. Up front, there’s a parametric jewel pattern grille flanked by LED projectors with LED DRLs as well. It even gets projector fog lamps with cornering function and Z-shaped LED tail lights. The sharpness in its exterior design is carried on to the 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, too.
Move inside the i20 and you get a fully digital cockpit with 26.03-cm HD touchscreen infotainment screen. In addition to that, there is a wireless charger with cooling pad, Oxyboost air purifier with AQI, electric sunroof and a 7-speaker Bose audio system. On the safety front, you get 6 airbags, hill assist control, tyre pressure monitoring system, emergency stop signal, and electronic stability control, among others.
Prices for the all-new Hyundai i20 start at Rs 6.79 lakh for the 1.2-litre Magna variant and goes all the way up to Rs 11.18 lakh for the top of the line 1.0-litre turbo-petrol Asta(O) variant. All prices are ex-showroom, India. Here is a detailed price list of all its variants:
