Mercedes-Benz has launched the GLA SUV in India at a starting price of Rs 42.10 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the Progressive Line petrol variant. It is also available in diesel and a properly fast AMG variant. If you’re eyeing the AMG variant then get ready to pay as much as Rs 57.3 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Now that we have the GLA’s price cleared out of our way, let’s see what it has to offer. On the performance side of things, it’s got a 161-bhp 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, sending power to its front wheels via a 7-speed DCT ‘box. Whereas, the 188-bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine is paired to an 8-speed DCT gearbox and can be either had in FWD or Mercedes’s four-wheel drive. But, it’s the fancy AMG GLA 35 4Matic that will catch your eye. Powering it is a 302-bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine. All that power is sent to its four wheels via a 7-speed DCT gearbox. Translating all that power on the road with a 0-100 kph sprint time of 5.1 seconds.
This second-generation GLA might fool you for a hatchback-SUV design, but it has increased in dimension than its predecessor. In numbers, it is now 104 mm taller and has a 30 mm longer wheelbase. This means that it should have better headroom up front and legroom for the passengers. Inside, the GLA’s equipped with tech all around. In its topmost trim, it features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Connectivity is easier with the help of its MBUX system along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Further, it gets a decent sunroof, wireless charging, ambient lighting, to name a few.
