MG has just unveiled its latest competitor, the Astor, in the already crowded mid-size SUV segment. It’s based on the same platform as the MG ZS. Of course, the highlight is that it has a Personal Assistant AI and Autonomous Level 2 technology. Along with that, it comes with a ton of safety features and two petrol powertrain options to choose from.
First up is a 138-bhp 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 22.43 kgm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed AT, there’s no manual gearbox on offer. The 108-bhp 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine delivers 14.68 kgm of torque. Here, you can choose between an 8-speed CVT or a manual gearbox. It even gets three different modes to set up the steering wheel.
As far as size is concerned, the Astor more or less is similar to the ZS EV. It is 4323 mm in length, 1809 mm in width and 1650 mm in height. That’s aiming directly at the Creta, Seltos, S-Cross, Duster and Kicks. Well, it’s coming at them with first-in-class segment features. For instance, the personal AI assistant and the Autonomous Level 2 technology. The Level 2 ADAS features, controlled by radar and cameras, will include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, intelligent headlamp control, rear drive assist, speed assist and others. Not only this but it also offers 27 safety features.
Inside, you’ll find a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and, of course, the AI personal assistant robot mounted on the dashboard will follow voice commands. Furthermore, it gets a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, 6-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a panoramic sunroof, heated ORVMs, auto climate control among other features.
