Everybody loves a convertible, don’t they? For some folks, it goes back to when they watched the iconic scene from the Bollywood movie Dil Chahta Hai. The blue car in the film, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, is what everyone wishes they had. And now, its successor is here. Mercedes-Benz has launched the seventh generation, the Mercedes-AMG SL 55, through the CBU route.
This two-door convertible has a retractable fabric cover, which can be operated at speeds of up to 60 kph, and the roof can be opened or closed in 15 seconds. The Mercedes-AMG SL 55 gets quad exhausts and sits on 20-inch alloys. Inside, there’s a smattering of carbon fibre trim and the AMG performance seats come with Alcantara upholstery. Other features include an 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting and a head-up display, to name a few.
The 469-bhp 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine delivers 71.38 kgm of torque and is paired to a 9-speed auto gearbox. Plus, it has an all-wheel drive system along with rear-axle steering as standard. By the way, it’s the first roadster to have the latter. The spec sheet of the AMG SL 55 claims that it can do the 0-100-kph sprint in 3.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 295 kph. That’s more than enough to get wind in your hair. All that can be yours for Rs 2.35 crore (ex-showroom).
