It is evident that Mini is making some rather…. erm, big changes in its approach to cars, and as such, the carmaker has gone on to reinvent two of its most popular models. Mini has just showcased the 2024 iterations of the Cooper and the Countryman, and while the Countryman has received combustion power, the carmaker has only spoken about the EV versions of both cars in detail.
Design-wise, both cars follow a minimalist theme, and feature changes that make them look like properly evolved versions of their predecessors. The 2024 Cooper gets a revamped front end with an octagonal grille and flush-fitting oval headlights. The profile now lacks side-cladding and features new doors with flush door handles. The rear too is cleaner and features flush-fitting tail-lights.
The 2024 Countryman has also followed a similar direction when it comes to exterior changes, with the headlights now appearing to be slightly smaller than before. However, the Countryman has grown in terms of dimensions, now standing 134mm longer and 99mm taller than its predecessor.
Mini has only spoken about electric power for both cars. While the 2024 Countryman shares its platform with the BMW iX1, the 2024 Cooper has been developed jointly between BMW and Great Wall Motor.
The 2024 Countryman gets two configurations globally. The first is the Countryman E, which puts out 201.2 bhp and 25.4 kgm of torque with its single electric motor. Next is the Countryman SE, with 308.7 bhp and 50.3 kgm of torque on offer, along with all-wheel drive. In terms of range, Mini claims the Countryman can cover 462 km and 433 km in its E and SE trims respectively.
Meanwhile, the 2024 Cooper also comes in two trims – the Cooper E with 181 bhp and 29.5 kgm of torque on offer, and the Cooper SE with 215 bhp and 33.6 kgm of torque. While the Cooper E gets a claimed range of 305 km, the Cooper SE gets a larger 54.2kWh battery pack, resulting in a higher claimed range of 402 km.
Minimalism in the interiors is common to both cars, and Mini has basically removed a lot of stuff inside to keep it clean and clutter-free. The dashboard makes use of textile surfaces, while the trademark round infotainment system is a 9.44-inch unit, equipped with Mini Operating System 9, an intelligent assistant, voice commands and more. The digital cockpit receives customizable themes, and there is ambient lighting on offer too. Furthermore, the 2024 Countryman receives Level 2 driver assistance systems.
