KTM has showcased the all-new KTM 990 Duke at EICMA, aiming directly at the coveted litre-class naked bike segment. With 2024 marking 30 years of the Duke brand, the all-new KTM 990 Duke features a new parallel-twin engine, an all-new chassis and a swingarm, with updated ergonomics and technology.
The new Duke’s 947 cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine, which is also Euro 5+ compliant, is derived from the 890 Duke R’s 889 cc twin-cylinder mill. It is tuned to produce a power output of 121 bhp and 10.5 kgm of torque, and paired to a 6-speed transmission with an optional quickshifter.
The KTM 990 Duke has been built on a new tubular steel frame while the subframe is made from cast aluminium, as we have seen on the recently launched 390 and 250 Dukes in India. The new frame setup also includes an airbox and air intake under the seat. Additionally, the triple clamp that connects the front fork to the handlebars is made from forged aluminium and the swingarm has also been subject to a redesign.
The KTM 990 Duke carries features such as LED lighting, a USB Type C charger and a 5-inch coloured TFT screen. Moreover, the KTM 990 Duke also offers a total of five riding modes, namely Rain, Street, and Sport with Performance and Track modes being an optional addition.
The new Duke sits on the same 17-inch wheels that are also seen on the 1290 Super Duke R with slight adjustments to fit the double-sided swingarm. The KTM 990 Duke weighs in at just 179 kg and comes with Bridgestone S22 tyres as standard. The bike’s frame is supported by 43 mm WP Apex open-cartridge forks in the front with 140 mm of travel, as well as compression and rebound adjustability. In the rear, a WP Apex monoshock offers 5-click adjustments for rebound and manual preload adjustment.
Although the new KTM 990 Duke seems like quite an enthralling naked motorcycle, we doubt that it will land on Indian shores any time soon.
