Wait a minute; a twin-turbo hybrid? In a Lamborghini?! Yup, you read that right. The upcoming Huracan replacement, known as the Lamborghini 634 for now, will not follow the Revuelto with a naturally-aspirated powertrain. Yes, it does come with a trio of electric motors, and an eight-speed dual clutch transmission from the Revuelto, but the combustion powertrain is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. This should be interesting.
Numbers? This new V8 hybrid powertrain produces 779 bhp between 9,000 to 9,750 rpm, with a redline figure of 10,000 rpm. Meanwhile the torque figure of 74.43 kgm comes in between 4,000 to 7,000 rpm. These numbers are usually reserved for racing engines, and Lamborghini says this will make the 634 unique among other road-going sports cars.
Similar to the Revuelto, the Lamborghini is also likely to feature a two-front and one-rear motor setup. The car maker says that the rear electric motor has been designed specifically for the V8 powertrain, and is placed between the combustion engine and the transmission. Lamborghini says this setup alone is capable of producing 147 bhp and 33.65 kgm of torque at 3,500 rpm.
More details of the Lamborghini 634 shall be known in the coming months. As for what it’ll be called, it could be anyone’s guess for now. However, the car maker did file a trademark some time ago, and perhaps the numbers of this new twin-turbo V8 powertrain hint at the ‘reckless’ nature of this car?
