In a bid to keep pace with the shifting demands of the Indian automotive market, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has rolled out a new variant of its compact sedan, the AURA. Dubbed the AURA Hy-CNG E trim, this new model introduces a factory-fitted CNG option at a price tag of INR 7,48,600 (Ex-showroom).
This move by HMIL is a clear nod to the rising preference for fuel-efficient and eco-friendly vehicles among Indian consumers. The CNG variant, now available in the E trim, is designed to cater to those who seek an economical driving option without sacrificing the essentials of a modern sedan.
Tarun Garg, Whole Time Director & Chief Operating Officer at Hyundai Motor India Limited, remarked on the launch, stating that “The Hyundai AURA Hy-CNG E trim underscores our dedication to providing eco-friendly mobility solutions while maintaining style, safety, and performance,”. He further emphasized the sedan’s strong market presence, with over 200,000 units sold since its initial launch.
In terms of features, the AURA Hy-CNG E trim doesn’t stray far from its petrol and diesel siblings. It includes practical conveniences like front power windows, height-adjustable driver’s seat, adjustable rear headrests, and a 3.5-inch multi-information display embedded within the speedometer. The exterior is highlighted by Z-shaped LED taillamps, adding a touch of flair to the car’s design.
In terms of safety, the AURA Hy-CNG E trim is equipped with six airbags, three-point seat belts for all passengers, and seatbelt reminders, ensuring that safety isn’t compromised in the quest for efficiency. The CNG setup is engineered with a leak-proof design, a convenient refueling nozzle near the petrol filler area, and a CNG switch, offering users peace of mind on the road.
Under the hood, the AURA Hy-CNG is powered by a 1.2L Bi-Fuel petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, delivering a modest 68 bhp of power and 9.5 kgm of torque. The real highlight, however, is its fuel efficiency, with Hyundai claiming an impressive 28.4 kpkg, making it a strong contender for those looking to stretch their fuel budget.
The addition of the Hy-CNG E variant to the AURA lineup marks another step in Hyundai’s journey to blend eco-friendly driving with the comfort and technology that today’s drivers have come to expect. While the CNG option broadens the AURA’s appeal, it also offers an economical option to the mass of India.
