India’s latest karting facility, the Madras International Karting Arena (MIKA), has opened at the Madras International Circuit in Chennai. The event saw two-time Formula 1 world champion Mika Häkkinen, along with India’s F1 drivers Karun Chandhok and Narain Karthikeyan, in attendance.
Designed by UK-based Driven International, MIKA is a 1.2 km track built to international standards. The circuit includes modern features such as a race control room and provisions for electric go-kart charging, among others.
In addition to being a venue for leisure karting, MIKA aims to host international competitions and provide a platform for young motorsport talent. The circuit offers various karts, including internal combustion, electric, and karts for kids, with plans to introduce Rotax karts. Future developments will focus on making it a venue for family outings and corporate events.
India motorsport moves into the big leagues with this. Perhaps, and here’s hoping this one will stick.
