Mahindra has introduced the 2024 Thar Roxx 4×4 for off-road enthusiasts who also appreciate comfort and modern features at Rs. 18.79 Lakh (ex-showroom).

The Thar Roxx comes in two variants: MX5 and AX7L. A 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine powers the vehicle, delivering 150 Bhp and 33.6 kgm of torque in the manual version, while the automatic version generates 172.5 Bhp and 37.7 kgm of torque. Mahindra’s 4XPLOR system enhances off-road capability through brake and electronic locking differentials.

But is the Thar built for rugged terrains? Or is it just the usual city looker? Hmm…

The Thar Roxx offers features like CrawlSmart Assist for low-speed control and IntelliTurn for tight manoeuvres. Its approach and departure angles cater to serious off-road enthusiasts. A 650 mm water-wading depth allows it to cross streams and rivers with ease, making it ideal for adventurous journeys.

Besides that, the exterior remains largely the same. Oh, did I mention that this is a five-door? One of the most significant upgrades is the addition of rear doors, making access to the back seats much easier. This change transforms what was previously a cumbersome entry into a straightforward one, improving the overall practicality of the vehicle.

Going inside, the rear cabin has received upgrades, offering better headroom and legroom compared to its predecessor, though the under-thigh support needs improvement! The seat recline options remain somewhat limited, leaning towards a more upright position.

However, the overall quality, ergonomics, and fit and finish of the rear seats show a marked improvement. Central AC vents and a USB-C charger have also been added, improving convenience for passengers.

The Thar Roxx also introduces dual 10.25-inch displays, offering a modern and visually appealing interface. The driver display integrates essential information like speed and navigation seamlessly. While the infotainment system has improved, occasional glitches, such as phone connectivity issues, still occur.

The AX7L version adds a panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon sound system, ventilated seats, and ADAS Level 2 features such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.

Pricing starts at Rs. 18.79 lakh for the MX5 manual, while the AX7L automatic is available at Rs. 22.49 lakh. Does this redeem the Thar from the city looker status? Let us know on your socials.
