Ah, sustainability. A word far too used and abused these days, one that’s turned into a corporate keyword rather than anything meaningful. Good thing, then, that the new Swift came along at the right time — even if it does have Maruti’s AGS transmission and not a manual as I’d prefer. Why is that generator of involuntary nods a good thing, then? Because it compels me to stick to the definition of sustainability that I like. Pedal to the metal.
You see, the AGS is just fine for anything urban, and I might even say that it’s a convenience. It’s reasonably seamless for driving around in an insipid manner, and it does indeed make the task of suffering traffic far easier. And it remains an ingenious automatic solution for those who are too lazy to use their left feet, too. But, at the end of the day, a Swift is a Swift, and it must be driven like one, no?
So, I’ve found that the best way to have fun with the Swift is to floor it everywhere. That raspy motor loves to sing well into its rev range, and it’s smooth as well. The handling is a bit grown-up, which could’ve been a dampener, but it’s really not. If anything, the added plushness to proceedings is quite welcome, and it enhances the carefree chuck-ability of the Swift. However, it is important to note that rear-seat passengers will not welcome this attitude.
And that blue! Man, I simply love that colour, even if nobody really seems to notice that they’re looking at the new Swift. ‘That’s a nice colour, is it new?’ commented one gentleman. ‘Yes, that’s actually the new Swift,’ I replied, to his increasingly furrowed eyebrows. But whatever. I’m too busy to care, since I’ve been enforcing sustainability with the Swift wherever we go. Take that, EVs.
