BMW Motorrad has been on a roll this year, bringing back-to-back products to the Indian market. The latest offering is the CE 02 electric motorcycle (?) which has been priced at Rs 4.49 lakh (ex-showroom India).

The German brand’s unconventional EV is nothing like the other electric two-wheelers in the market. With its compact and industrial design, the CE 02 looks like the perfect urban hustler. In fact, with its 3.92 kWh battery that can give a claimed range of 108 km, you are not touring with this little bike anyway. With the standard 0.9 kW charger, the CE 02 takes about five hours for a full charge while the 1.5 kW charger cuts it down by almost two hours.

That said, the CE 02 packs a mid-mounted motor with 11 kW of peak power and 5.6 kgm of peak torque. It can go up to a top speed of 95 kph and considering its petite proportions, this should mean a lot of fun.

The BMW CE 02 packs 37-mm USD forks and an off-set monoshock to handle the suspension duties. For braking, the Bavarian giant has deployed disc brakes at both ends, with ABS only at the front wheel. What should make it fun in the city is the 14-inch wheels and the low seat-height of just 745 mm.

Unlike most BMWs, this one doesn’t get a fancy display, but a 3.5-inch micro-TFT unit that shows the basic info. If you opt for the ‘Highline’ package, you get a third riding mode — Flash, along with the standard Flow and Surf modes. Heated grips, a smartphone holder and Connected Ride Control are also part of the package. However, BMW is yet to reveal the pricing of the Highline package.

For Rs 4.49 lakh, the BMW CE 02 comes across as an expensive proposition when you consider what it has to offer. That said, spec sheets don’t tell you the full story. Stay tuned for our first ride review.
