Mercedes-Benz India has expanded its legendary G-Class lineup with the launch of the new G450d, priced at Rs 2.90 crore (ex-showroom). With this new addition, the iconic off-roader is now available with petrol, diesel, and electric powertrains, offering enthusiasts a wider range of choices to suit both rugged adventures and refined urban driving.
At the heart of the G450d lies a 3.0-litre inline-six diesel engine paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This powertrain produces 362 bhp and 76.47 kgm of torque, aided by an additional 20 bhp boost from the integrated starter-generator (ISG). Power is channelled through a nine-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels, delivering brisk performance with a 0–100kph sprint in just 5.8 seconds.
True to its heritage, the G450d maintains the G-Class’s uncompromising off-road capability. The SUV features three differential locks, a ladder-frame chassis, and adaptive damping suspension for superior terrain control. Its robust design offers 241mm of ground clearance, a 70cm water-wading depth, and an ability to tackle gradients of up to 100 per cent on appropriate surfaces—numbers that reaffirm why the G-Class remains one of the most capable luxury off-roaders in the world.
“The new G 450d underlines our commitment to offer diesel, petrol and electric powertrain for the first time in India to the G-Class, the longest running nameplate in the automotive industry. The G 450d featuring Mercedes-Benz’s powerful and efficient diesel engine, combines performance with efficiency, reiterating the sustained customer demand for a diesel powertrain in the G-Class. The G 450d ensures Mercedes-Benz now has a ‘G-Class’ for every customer requirement in India, further elevating practicality along with desirability and cult status of this iconic SUV.” – Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India
The design evolution of the G450d is subtly classic charm with modern sophistication. The exterior gets a new front grille with four horizontal slats, reworked bumpers and updated A-pillar cladding. The SUV rides on 20-inch AMG alloy wheels finished in high-gloss black, adding a hint of sportiness to its otherwise timeless silhouette.
Inside, the G450d combines luxury and functionality. The cabin features a redesigned off-road cockpit layout, the latest MBUX NTG7 infotainment system with augmented reality navigation, and a 12.3-inch dual-screen display. Plush Nappa leather upholstery, premium trim inserts, a Burmester 3D surround sound system with Dolby Atmos, and 64-colour ambient lighting elevate the in-cabin experience to unmistakable Mercedes-Benz standards.
Adding to its exclusivity, only 50 units of the Mercedes-Benz G450d will be available in India as part of the first batch. With this launch, Mercedes-Benz reinforces the G-Class’s appeal—offering a perfect blend of diesel muscle, hybrid efficiency, and unmistakable G-Wagen charisma—for those who demand performance with prestige, on or off the road.
