San Marino-based restomodder Eccentrica has made a name for itself rebuilding Lamborghini Diablos, but with its latest project, it has turned things up to 11 and the result is the most visceral and driver focussed DIablo resto-mod. Say hello to the utterly gorgeous Eccentrica V12 Roadster. It’s an open-top evolution of the Diablo-based restomod the company first revealed in 2024, and it will make its physical debut at The Quail on August 14 during Monterey Car Week.
Like the coupe, the Roadster starts with a first-generation Lamborghini Diablo and gives almost every mechanical component a thorough rethink. Eccentrica claims more than 3500 new components have gone into the project, while the original car’s unmistakable 1990s silhouette remains largely intact. The big change, obviously, is the missing roof.
Underneath the single-piece carbonfibre engine cover sits a heavily revised version of the Diablo’s naturally aspirated 5.7-litre V12. It gets a recalibrated ECU, a more efficient intake system with electronic throttle bodies and improved thermal management. The result is 542 bhp at 7000 rpm and 600 Nm of peak torque at 6500 rpm. All the power is sent only to the rear wheels. And yes, it still gets a manual gearbox. It’s a modified version of the original Diablo’s five-speed unit, now with six forward ratios and a separate electrically actuated reverse. Eccentrica claims 0 to 100 kph in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 330 kph.
The Roadster also gets Pirelli Trofeo RS rubber at all four corners, and a strengthened steel chassis with additional carbonfibre reinforcement. There are semi-active dampers with a bespoke calibration for it, power steering and selectable drive modes that allow the driver to decide just how much of that V12’s attitude they want to deploy.
The bodywork is now entirely carbonfibre, but chopping the roof off a supercar isn’t quite as simple as it sounds. It alters both chassis rigidity and airflow, so Eccentrica has reworked the Roadster’s aerodynamics to manage the air around the open cockpit. Eccentrica says that has resulted in a far more refined cabin experience with the roof down at speeds onwards of 200 kph.
Only 19 examples of the V12 Roadster will be built, with each one tailored to its owner’s specification. Eccentrica hasn’t announced pricing yet, but the coupe’s £1 million-plus (Rs 7 crore) starting price gives you a fairly good idea of the financial territory we’re entering.
The original Diablo was never subtle. It was a wedge of excess, powered by a naturally aspirated V12 and designed in an era when supercars were allowed to be intimidating. Eccentrica hasn’t tried to tame any of that. It has simply made it better in every aspect and taken away the roof. The result is the ultimate Diablo resto-mod and one of the most beautiful cars of our times, that’s for sure.
