Triumph has unveiled the new Bonneville T40 and T40 Black, bringing the iconic British motorcycle maker’s classic design language to its 350cc range. Both motorcycles are powered by a dedicated version of Triumph’s liquid-cooled 350cc TR Series single-cylinder engine.
The engine has been tuned specifically for the Bonneville T40, producing 28.6 bhp at 7,000rpm and 31.2Nm at 5,500rpm. Triumph says the revised cylinder head and engine tune are aimed at delivering stronger low- and mid-range torque, while retaining the relaxed character associated with the Bonneville name.
Visually, the T40 retains the familiar Bonneville formula, with a sculpted teardrop fuel tank, round LED headlight, long mudguards, spoked wheels, twin rear shocks and a peashooter-style exhaust. The standard T40 gets three two-tone paint schemes with hand-painted coach lining, while the T40 Black features a darker treatment with Matt Pewter Grey and Matt Phantom Black finishes.
Where the T40 departs from traditional Bonneville territory is its equipment list. It gets a 4-inch circular TFT display with smartphone connectivity and built-in navigation, along with cruise control, five riding modes and lean-sensitive cornering ABS and traction control. The TFT can also be switched to a Heritage Mode with an analogue-style display.
The motorcycle uses 18-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked wheels, while suspension comprises conventional front forks and twin rear shocks. It has a 790mm seat height and weighs 191kg ready to ride, with an optional low seat bringing the seat height down to 770mm. A centre stand is standard.
Triumph India hasn’t revealed the launch timeline for the Bonnie, however, it is likely to launch by the end of this month.
