In both carburetted and fuel-injected versions, the new TVS Apache RTR 160 4V has been introduced to the market. The styling comes from the larger TVS Apache RTR 200 4V but at a lower price point, the 160-cc-engined motorcycle is ready to leave a mark.
Priced at Rs 81,490 for the carburettor-equipped version and Rs 89,990 for the Apache RTR 160 Fi 4V, the new Apache is also expected to contribute a large percentage to the company’s sales. That the new motorcycle is the most powerful of its kind and has its origins in the Group B RTR 165 should answer how it will do that.
The Group B motorcycle has won the INMRC six times, so that’s a great starting point. And the winning streak on the road-going RTR 160 will largely be because of its 159.7 cc 4-valve engine which makes up to 16.57 bhp@8000 rpm (Fi; carb-ed model makes about 16.2 bhp) and 1.51 kgm@6500 rpm.
Also, according to TVS, the bike offers best-in-segment power-to-weight ratio. With which the new Apache RTR can do, again company-claimed, a 0-60 kph in just 4.73 seconds (carb; the Fi takes 4.8 s). The top speed is said to be 114 kph for the Fi and 113 kph for the standard version.
To ensure the motorcycle can put all that power down to the road, the company uses its patented Double-cradle Split Synchro Stiff Frame Design and a Showa mono-shock suspension at the rear.
It gets a fully digital speedometer, disc brakes on both wheels for the RTR 160 Fi 4V and disc and drum (front and rear respectively) on the RTR 160 4V. And while it borrows styling from its larger sibling, there are three colours to choose from: Racing Red, Metallic Blue, and Knight Black.
