Eicma brings a hundred and one reasons (or maybe more) for motorcycle lovers to be excited, and this year’s show isn’t going to disappoint. And same goes for one of the announcements made today, which is of the BMW G 310 GS, the smallest GS in the line-up.
Sharing its platform with the G 310 R — the bike developed in collaboration with TVS — the G 310 GS is going to be a new entry point to the GS range of adventure bikes. The sub-500 cc bike is powered by a 313 cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine which makes 34 bhp at 9,500 rpm and 2.85 kgm at 7500 rpm.
Using the same chassis as the G 310 R, the GS also gets a two-channel ABS, multifunction instrument cluster, upside down forks up front and an aluminium swingarm at the rear. The six-speed gearbox is retained but the exhaust has redesigned to suit the bike’s purpose. The attachment points for body components, the suspension, and the handlebars have been uprated as well. It gets a 180 mm spring travel (both at front and rear) for better performance off the road, and while the front tyre is larger (110/80 R19), the rear is unchanged in comparison to that of the G 310 R (150/70 R17).
Colour choices will include Cosmic Black, Racing Red, and Pearl White (metallic). Other vital stats include a 11-litre fuel tank, a top speed of 143 kph, and an unladen (but fully fuelled) weight of 169 kilos.
Further details regarding market-wise launch will be out soon. And like the G 310 R, the G 310 GS will be manufactured by TVS in India, but with quality standards set by BMW Motorrad. The company will start its innings in India from next year onwards.
