Hot on the heels of the launch of the BMW R 1300 GS, the Bavarian marque has teased the global debut of the R 1300 GS Adventure — the more hardcore iteration of the flagship ADV. While all the details will be revealed on July 5, the teaser image shows some interesting details:
New Bodywork
The ‘Adventure’ suffix brings a slew of changes to the standard model and one of them is new bodywork. However, that’s more for function than form. The R 1300 GSA will have a bigger fuel tank that is expected to boost up the fuel capacity from 19 to 29 litres. Interestingly, BMW seems to have used this as a great opportunity to fit the auxiliary lights into the bodywork.
Furthermore, the GSA seems to have a taller and wider windshield and wind deflectors just under the handlebar. Even the engine guards on offer are different from those seen on the R 1300 GS.
New Underpinnings
Given the responsibility that comes with the ‘Adventure’ tag, BMW is expected to use an upgraded set of its Evo telelever and paralever suspension. We might see more suspension travel and a different tuning for it to work with extra weight and of course, responsibility.

Semi-Automatic Transmission?
In May, BMW Motorrad announced its Automated Shift Assistant System (ASA), and the R 1300 GSA could be the first candidate to don this semi-automatic gearbox. Of course, just like Honda Africa Twin, a manual transmission alternative would be available, too. The ASA uses two electromechanical actuators — one for the clutch and other for the gear shifts, working in conjunction with the ECU and sensors to determine the clutch position and revs of the transmission input shaft. The system allows automatic and semi-manual shift using the foot lever.
We expect BMW Motorrad India to launch the R 1300 GSA a few months after its global debut. Considering that the R 1300 GS is priced at Rs 20.95 lakh, we expect the GSA to cost a couple of lakh more. Even with that, it would undercut the likes of Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally and even the DesertX Rally.
