If you’re planning your next intercontinental motorcycle ride and haven’t yet picked a steed to do it on, you could do worse than to wait a little for the updated BMW R 1250 GS twins to go on sale.
What do you get for your money? Dynamic traction control and an Eco mode (where torque and power delivery are modulated for maximum fuel economy) are standard, as is BMW’s combi-braking system, the Integral Pro ABS, which adjusts braking performance based on the terrain. New colourways are also on offer; while the standard GS gets black and white paint schemes, the Adventure gets black with grey. Other than these, you can opt for another shade of white, red and blue. Other options include adaptive cornering lamps and an updated Hill Start Control Pro system.
At the heart of the matter is a BS6, 1,254cc twin with 136 bhp and 14.6 kgm of torque. The engine has Shiftcam tech, which is essentially a VVT system. The bikes will go on sale this month – prices will be announced later.
