It was the IPL that introduced the concept of player auctions to us, and this concept is now being applied to motorsports as well. While the official schedule of the upcoming CEAT Indian Supercross League is yet to be revealed, we now know that the league will now be holding rider auctions in Pune, on January 7. The auction pool will feature 104 riders, which includes a mix of 38 Indian riders and 73 international riders.
For the inaugural mega-auction of the league, each time gets a cumulative amount of Rs 6 crore in its purse. The 73 international riders happen to be from countries such as South Africa, Italy, France, Germany, USA, UK, Spain, Australia, France, Brazil, and Portugal among others. There are a total of four categories; 450 cc international, 250 cc international, 250 cc India-Asia mix, and 85 cc India junior class. Each time is allowed up to two riders per category, with a maximum of 48 slots available. The six teams set to compete in the inaugural edition of the Indian Supercross League are BigRock Motorsports which is headed by CS Santosh, along with Gujarat Trailblazers led by Gaurav Gill, Team Mohite Racing, SG Speed Racers, Panchshil Racing, and recently-added Reise MotoSport.
