Right from the early days of new-age motoring in the country, the Splendor (damn you, autocorrect) has been a well-known product. After breaking records and providing mobility at a pocket, the bike is now available in a modern avatar. Called Splendor iSmart 110, it’s not just a tremendous update to the original bike — not sharing much apart from the name — it’s also a huge milestone for Hero Moto Corp.
Developed in-house by Hero, the Splendor iSmart 110 was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo earlier this year. The company says the chassis is all new, and as the ‘iSmart’ moniker suggests, it comes with a neat stop-start system.
The 109.15 cc, BS-IV compliant engine makes 9.4 PS at 7,500 rpm and 9 Nm or maximum torque at 5,500 rpm. It comes mated to a 4-speed gearbox, and manages to do 0-60 km/h in just 7.45 seconds (claimed) but fuel economy figures aren’t made available yet.
It gets drum brakes at both front and rear, and a choice of four colour combinations: Blue and Black, Red and Black, Silver and Black, and Sports Red. It also boasts a long seat for added comfort, a service due indicator as a part of the digital display, and an automatic headlamp on feature. Styling bits include body graphics, dual-tone mirrors, helping it achieve a design that looks nowhere close to the bike which it shares its name with.
How Much?
The 110 cc bike is priced at Rs 53,100, ex-showroom, Mumbai.
