Honda has finally launched the SP160 in the Indian market, available in two variants priced from Rs 1,17,500 (ex-showroom) onwards. Following a flurry of teasers leading up to the unveil and launch, Honda has generated quite a bit of interest around it.
The Honda SP160 is being marketed as a sporty-looking motorcycle, featuring LED lighting, tank shrouds and an aerodynamic under cowl. It comes with a single-piece seat and a fully digital instrument console. The console displays details like time, gear position indicator, side stand indicator, and fuel gauge as well as other mileage-related information such as average fuel mileage, fuel consumption and average speed.
Powered by an OBD2 compliant, 162.71cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, the SP160 makes 13.2 bhp, 1.48 kgm of torque and comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The long-stroke engine features a high compression ratio of 10:1. It also gets a roller rocker arm and a counter-balancer, claiming to offer smoother power delivery.
The suspension setup consists of a telescopic fork at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. The bike is available with a single 276 mm front disc and either a 220 mm disc or a 130 mm drum at the rear, depending on the variant. Other features include an engine cutoff switch, a hazard switch for emergency stops, and 177 mm of ground clearance with a wheelbase of 1347 mm. It is further equipped with single-channel ABS (Anti-lock braking system) for added confidence while riding.
