We bet you didn’t see this one coming! Honda has quietly launched its adventure-tourer motorcycle in India nearly a year after showcasing it at the EICMA 2022. The Honda XL750 Transalp comes with an introductory price tag of Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom), but there is a catch — Honda says that bookings are open only for the first 100 customers, which means there’s a huge chance you might miss out by the time you finish reading this story.
The Transalp might be a new name to a majority of Indian customers, but it actually goes all the way back to the 80s, and it was revived by Honda in 2022. Powering the XL750 Transalp is a 755 cc liquid-cooled twin-cylinder engine derived from the CB750, producing 90.5 bhp at at 9500 rpm and 7.6 kgm of torque at 7250 rpm. Similar to the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, the XL750’s cylinders also make use of Ni-Sic (Nickel-Silicon Carbide) coating.
The motorcycle sits on a steel diamond frame, which is suspended on Showa 43 mm semi-function USD forks and a pro-link monoshock. The XL750 receives a 21-inch wheel and an 18-inch wheel at the front and rear respectively. With a kerb weight of 208 kg, the Honda X750 Transalp is 25 kg lighter than the BMW F 850 GS. In terms of braking equipment, it gets 310 mm front twin-discs with hydraulic dual-piston callipers, and a 256 mm rear disc with single-piston caliper. This braking system is also assisted by dual-channel ABS.
In terms of features, Honda has equipped it with a 5-inch TFT screen with customizable display, along with smartphone connectivity, self-cancelling turn-indicators, an emergency braking signal, ride-by-wire, and five riding modes, which include standard, sport, rain, gravel, and a ‘user’ mode with custom settings.
Available at Honda’s BigWing dealerships, the XL750 Transalp receives two paint schemes to choose from — Ross White, and Matte Ballistic Black. At Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the Honda XL750 Transalp is more affordable than the likes of the Triumph Tiger 850 Sport (Rs 11.95 lakh, ex-showroom) and the BMW F 850 GS (Rs 12.95 lakh, ex-showroom).
