Repsol is set to end its 30-year partnership with Honda this year.
The Spanish oil giant has been a key sponsor of Honda since 1995, creating, in my humble opnion, the most iconic livery in motorcycle racing history.
Repsol scaled back its involvement with the team, at the begining of this year. This lead Honda to move away from its all-orange paint scheme in favour of a new design featuring Honda’s corporate colours.
After the 2024 season, Repsol’s branding and signature orange will disappear entirely from Honda’s RC213V, as the company has chosen not to renew its contract with the Japanese manufacturer.
In the press release, Repsol acknowledged the long-standing partnership and the shared success between the two, with 10 team titles, 15 rider titles, and 183 victories in MotoGP.
Despite this, the company has decided to focus on other areas of motorsport.
With Marquez’s departure last year and this now changed status of Repsol and Honda, has raised doubts about the future of the partnership.
Honda has expressed a desire to shift towards its own red, white, and blue corporate colours across its motorsport ventures.
An end to a legacy. Hopefully, for another legacy for Honda that shall continue for years to come. For more news on Motorsport, stay tuned to Motoring World.
