In Triumph’s history, the name Trident has brought in a lot of success. The most famous of the lot is the ‘Slippery Sam’ which won five consecutive Isle of Man TT races from 1971 to 1975. In 1990, the Trident nameplate made a comeback with the 750cc and 900cc three-cylinder roadsters. Now, it’s back yet again in the middleweight roadster category with a new 660cc three-cylinder powertrain and an all-new tubular steel chassis.
The Trident 660 produces 80 bhp@10250 rpm and 6.52 kgm of torque@6250 rpm. Power goes through a 6-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch. Triumph has managed to make it lightweight, too, with a wet weight of just 189 kg. Up front, it is equipped with a 41mm Showa upside down separate function fork giving it 120mm front wheel travel, and on the rear the Trident features a Showa preload adjustable monoshock rear suspension unit with linkage.
The Trident will also come with a whole host of standard features like Road and Rain riding modes with switchable traction control and ride-by-wire. In addition to that, it also gets all-LED lighting and a digital instrument cluster with colour TFT display. The instrument cluster has a few tricks of its own up its sleeve. It can give you turn-by-turn directions, control your GoPro and phone all via Bluetooth and the dedicated My Triumph app, using the handlebar mounted switches.
You can get the Trident 660 in four colour schemes: Silver Ice and Diablo Red, Matt Jet Black and Matt Silver Ice, Crystal White and Sapphire Black. The Trident will go on sale in early 2021 and we’ll have its price and more details closer to its launch. Stay tuned!
