You’ll be pleased to know that Triumph’s launched the Speed 400 at Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Surprised, eh? It has also unveiled the Scrambler 400 X, whose price will be revealed later in October. Both motorcycles have been built in collaboration with Bajaj, and it is the most affordable motorcycle launched by Triumph in India yet.
Powering both the bikes is a new single-cylinder liquid-cooled 398cc engine producing 39.5 bhp at 8000 rpm and 3.82 kgm at 6500 rpm, paired to a 6-speed gearbox via a torque-assist clutch. It has an upside-down front fork with 130 mm of travel and a mono-shock at the back. Braking duties are carried by a 300 mm rotor at the front and a single disc at the back.
As for the Scrambler 400 X, it gets longer travel suspension, wider handlebars with knuckle guards, and a 19-inch front wheel fitted with dual-purpose tyres than the Speed 400. The 400 X also gets a larger 320-mm front disc at the front. The 400 X has a two-piece seat that measures 835 mm, as opposed to 790 mm on the Speed 400. Moreover, it has a slightly larger wheelbase than the roadster and weighs 9 kg more than the Speed 400 (170 kg).
Other features on the motorcycles include an LED headlamp, an analogue speedometer with an integrated multi-function LCD screen, a USB charging port, ride-by-wire and dual-channel ABS.
