Last year Triumph had given us more than a sneak peek of its most affordable Tiger, the Tiger 850 Sport. Today, it has officially launched it in India. It’s always good news for motorcyclists looking for more options in the adventure-touring segment.
Powering the Tiger 850 Sport is an 888cc motor with a T-plane crank which produces 84 bhp@8500 rpm and 8.36 kgm of torque@6500 rpm, paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox, and comes with a slip and assist clutch. For better tractability at lower rpms, the T-plane crank and 1-3-2 firing order of the inline 3-cylinder should do wonders for city riding. Even the Tiger 900 has the same engine albeit in a higher state of tune.
The Tiger 850 Sport comes equipped with class-leading Brembo Stylema brakes, 19-inch front tyres and 17-inch rear tyres wrapped in Michelin rubber, ABS and switchable traction control which can be switched using the two riding modes (Road and Rain), and suspension setup from Marzocchi springs. Up front, it gets a 45 mm USD fork with 180 mm travel and at the rear it gets a manual preload-adjustable gas-charged monoshock with 170 mm travel. On the features front, it gets all-LED lighting, USB charging port, 5-inch full TFT display, and an adjustable two-position seat height mechanism, which increases the 810 mm seat height by 20 mm.
Triumph has priced the Tiger 850 Sport at Rs 11.95 lakh, ex-showroom, and is available in two colours, Graphite & Diablo Red, and Graphite & Caspian Blue. Its closest competitor is the Ducati Multistrada 950 and will lock horns with BMW’s F 750 GS when it decides to introduce in our market.
