Remember the rad TVS Creon concept showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo? Well, that has finally gone into production in the form of X – the new flagship electric scooter from the Hosur-based manufacturer. At Rs 2,49,990 (ex-showroom Bengaluru), the TVS X is also the costliest e-scooter you can buy in India today. But, here’s how it justifies its price tag:
Performance That’ll Make Most Scooters In India Sweat
The TVS X packs a mid-mounted PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) that puts out a generous 11kW of peak power and 7kW of continuous power. But what’ll have you giggling when giving it the beans would be the 4.07 kgm of peak twist… that’s more than the KTM 390 Duke but, unlike the Austrian steed, the Hosur’s stallion has that at your disposal all the time!
TVS claims that this motor can propel the X from nought to 40 kph in 2.6 seconds and attain a top speed of 105 kph.
Hardware To Back That Performance
The TVS X is based on the new ‘Xleton’ platform which uses a perimeter frame with a bolt-on subframe and a cradle to hold the 4.4kWh battery pack. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic fork and a off-set monoshock mounted on an aluminium swingarm. The X runs on 12-inch wheels at both ends with disc brakes dropping the anchor. This is also the first TVS scooter to pack a single-channel ABS.
Features Galore
Let’s start with the massive 10.25-inch TFT touchscreen console with tilt adjustment. Yeah, that’s big enough to watch your favourite movie or catch up on the MotoGP races with your buddies, right? And interestingly, it can. Thankfully, only when the X is parked. With functionalities like live video streaming, on-board games and a web browser, there’s very little that this screen can’t do.
Of course, TVS’ suite of SmartXonnect features like navigation, call, SMS alerts, and anti-theft alarms are the obvious additions. With this massive TFT console, you can toggle through the “Xtealth”, “Xtride” and “Xonic” modes that come Xtandard (sorry, couldn’t help it). And yes, there’s also multi-level regenerative braking, along with cruise control and reverse assist.
If Looks Could Kill…
Then the X would have been in some serious trouble. Because, come on… is there anything close in the Indian market? TVS has retained almost everything from the Creon concept with few details that make it all the more tempting. For starters, the vertical LED headlight flanked by the floating panels look cool and futuristic. And to make it even hotter are the cornering lights placed under the front apron.
From the side, things get even more interesting. The floating side panels are proudly on display, and right under those are the pillion footpegs sitting flush with them. At the back, there’s the singular vertical LED tail light, complemented by equally aggressive-looking indicators and licence plate holder. The central spine with the maxi-scooter-like footboards coupled with the motorcycle-type handlebar should render a commanding riding posture.
Let’s Talk Money
Sure, it is the most expensive e-scooter currently on sale in India. Furthermore, it doesn’t even get the FAME-II subsidy. And the 950W charger supplied will cost you Rs 16,275 and will get your X charged from 0-80 per cent in a claimed four and a half hours. There’s also an option of a 3kW fast charger whose price isn’t known yet.
So yes, the TVS X might seem like an Xpensive proposition, but would it feel as Xciting to ride too? Well, can’t wait for TVS to give us one to hoon around.
