When we talk about road safety, we usually focus on the big stuff like wearing your seatbelt and driving while intoxicated, but the little things make a huge difference both your safety and the safety of the people around you as well. Using your phone while driving is a prime example of that. Did you know that you’re just as likely to get into an accident on the road when you’re using your phone as when you drive while drunk? That’s right! Anything that takes your attention away from the road, even for a second or two, has the potential to get you into an accident on our fast-changing roads.
If you absolutely have to take a phone call, make sure you do so through a hands-free device and as for text messages, avoid reading and replying to text messages altogether. If you do have a pressing matter to attend to, pull over safely to the side of the road and then use your phone. You may think one text message couldn’t hurt, but that could be the difference between life and death, not just for you, but for your fellow road users as well.
