We’re going to keep things really simple. It’s the first sign of intelligence, isn’t it? In any case, aren’t you done with everyone trying so hard to impress? So, you must meet the MG Windsor EV. It’s a car that has it all. Couldn’t have kept it any simpler, could we?
MG calls the Windsor India’s first intelligent CUV and that’s a bit of an understatement because it’s not intelligent – it’s really intelligent. A lot of people look for different things in their cars today, especially in EVs, but the Windsor has got everything you can possibly want and need. And then some. It simply says, ‘No Time To Try’.
You know, the reference point for the coolest, most advanced kind of car for decades, has been the Bond car. Think screens and really smart features but, most importantly, an elegant form which isn’t a clear giveaway of what it’s packing within. The Windsor is a lot like that, come to think of it.
While an Indian Bond may not be a reality anytime soon, the Windsor can surely make the cut. It’s got the presence, for one, and no matter where you approach it from, it always gives away an air of sophistication and refinement. If its smooth, elegant AeroGlide design and its 18-inch diamond cut alloys impress you, wait till you see what’s inside.
The Windsor, prominently, features plush, Aero Lounge seats which, at the front are ventilated, including a 6-way powered driver’s seat and, at the rear, you amazingly get not just an elaborate amount of room but also 135 degrees of recline. Adding to the airy cabin experience is the Infinity View glass roof, which just makes for such a treat, whether you’re out for a late-night drive or on holiday, driving under a lush green canopy. Indeed, the Windsor is very much like the castle it’s named after – it’s enormous and just so comfortable. Then, there’s the tech – a 9-speaker audio system by Infinity which sounds really good, a PM 2.5-filter, 360-degree surround view cameras, and, of course, that incredible 15.6-inch Grandview touch display, which is like a central command to pretty much everything that happens inside.
Here’s a bit of trivia, especially for those fond of reading about cars (that should be all of you, then, since you’re reading this magazine!). If you want to know how feature-packed the Windsor is, just visit the MG website and download the brochure for it. It’s 40 pages long! And if reading the specifications of a car excites you, here’s a handy tip – you’ll only get there on page 35! Yes, that’s how much sheer value you get in a Windsor, and it’s still not the full story!
At this point, we must tell you about the brilliant 256-colour ambient lights, or about its emphasis on safety, which gets you 6 airbags, ISOFIX mounts, TPMS and hill-start assist, among a host of other features. And, of course, we have to tell you that it has four driving modes (Eco+, Eco, Normal and Sports), all of which let you maximise the performance and efficiency aspects of the Windsor – but, anyone could have told you that.
What we’d rather take this opportunity to tell you is how you’d feel when you get yourself a Windsor. From the moment you step in and set off, the Windsor feels immensely poised, just so stable and plush. It’s as if the very purpose of its existence is to bring you to a great state of calm, of peace of mind. And since we’re on that subject, it’s important that we tell you just how effortless MG has made owning a Windsor for you.
You get a lifetime warranty on the battery, 3 years of unlimited warranty on the car itself and, above all else, the Battery as a Service (BaaS) programme, which further lowers the initial cost of buying a Windsor – you can have one for as low as Rs 9.99 lakh, after which you pay Rs 3.9 per kilometre; to drive, or be driven around in this car! That’s fantastic! And this programme is really modular, so you, as a user, get lots of options to make buying one really, really simple. You would be happy to know that the BaaS programme is available on the Comet and the ZS EV as well.
If you’re curious about why we haven’t yet made a mention of the one critical factor that underlines every EV purchase decision (range anxiety), it’s simply because the Windsor doesn’t let you experience any. It gets you 332km of MIDC specified range, a super fast charging capability that lets you go from 0-80% in 55 mins and, then, you have MG’s incredibly engineered network of charging options. Range anxiety? With a Windsor, it truly is a thing of the past.
That, really, is what the MG Windsor is all about. Making your life sublime, in every single aspect. Effort and stress and chaos? Try another day.
