When BMW launched the manual-transmission M2 here, it drove us crazy. Yes, there are other similarly fast four-seaters available at nearly the same price, but, to paraphrase Anubhav, the M2 will make you want to be selfish. The Bavarian car maker has now given it an update, making it more potent, powerful, and also adding some extra sophistication to an already desirable car.
The 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol has been massaged to produce 20 bhp more, and before you ask, yes, the 6-speed manual transmission has been retained. The overall figures now stand at 473 bhp and 61.1 kgm of torque (56 kgm with the manual gearbox). Taking just 4 seconds (4.2 with the manual) to reach the 100 kph mark, the BMW M2 maxes out at 250 kph, but the optional M Driver’s package can dial things up to 280 kph!
There are no major changes to the exterior, and the M2 continues to feature 19-inch and 20-inch M light alloy wheels at the front and back respectively. Apart from the Jet Black finish, customers can now opt for a silver finish as well. The M2 badging and the twin tailpipes are finished in black, and the kidney grille receives silver borders.
Inside, you’ll notice the new flat-bottomed M leather steering wheel, while the rest of the layout remains identical, with the BMW Curved Display running on the latest 8.5 software. M Carbon bucket seats are available as an option, and functions for climate control can now be accessed digitally.
We can expect the updated BMW M2 to make it here at some point, and it won’t exactly be affordable either. However, with the power upgrades, one must ask; do you still want that M4?
