Remember when Maruti Suzuki had a reputation of making dependable, but conservative-looking cars? The arrival of the Swift threw that reputation out the window, and it’s a phenomenon that has worked ever since. In fact, the fourth-gen model is just around the corner; all you need to do is pay Rs 11,000 to pre-book it.
So what is the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift going to get? The ongoing K-Series powertrain will be laid to rest, and instead it will get a new Z12E 1.2-litre powertrain, which produces 80.8 bhp and 11.4 kgm of torque, and it can be paired to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT. However, Maruti Suzuki is likely to continue with the AMT here instead of the CVT.
The interiors of the Swift have been thoroughly revamped and seem to be inspired by the Baleno, with a 9-inch touch screen unit taking centrestage. The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift also retains the twin analogue dials. In overseas markets, the new Swift comes with ADAS features such as lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, blind spot monitoring, driver monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and lane departure prevention among other things.
We can expect the new Maruti Suzuki Swift to command a premium over the outgoing Swift, which can currently be had from Rs 6.24 lakh onwards (ex-showroom). Sheesh, even hatchbacks are getting costlier! Just imagine; what if Maruti Suzuki surprises us all with the ADAS suite in the new Swift? Better yet, how about the AllGrip all-wheel drive system? Is anyone listening?
