For those with sharp memory, you must remember the Renault Captur. The quirky-looking people mover from Renault used to be on sale till it was quietly pulled off the shelves in 2020 (like many other cars). The French car maker has now given it a mid-life update globally, giving it fresher looks, new powertrains, and an ADAS suite as well.
Under the hood, the new Captur allows customers to have two options; a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol unit with 90 bhp and 16.31 kgm of torque, paired to a 6-speed manual transmission, while the other is a 1.6-litre hybrid system with two electric motors backed by a 1.2 kWh battery This mill produces a combined 145 bhp and 20.90 kgm of torque. Unlike the India-spec model that used to have a diesel, there are no diesels here.
From the front, the Captur has gone through a complete revamp, with a new nose, bumper and new headlamps as well. The nose also bears the new Renault logo. Changes to the side remain very subtle, but you can now choose between alloy rims ranging from 17-inchers to 19-inchers. The tail gate has been redesigned, and it now gets new C-shaped tail lamps, which bear resemblance to the ones on the Kiger.
The interiors have gone through a revamp as well; the entire layout, steering wheel, instrument cluster, and the infotainment screen are all new. The infotainment screen is now a vertical 10.4-inch unit integrated with Google services, while the instrument cluster is a 10.25-inch unit. The interior upholstery makes use of sustainable materials such as hemp. As for the ADAS suite, it offers features such as emergency braking, lane keep assist, drowsiness detection, adaptive cruise control, and hill-start assist among others.
Given that Renault is working towards bringing the new Duster and, and also developing the next-gen Kiger and Triber, it is unlikely that the new Captur will be offered here. However, do you think Renault should bring it back?
