If you’re after good looks and an exciting drive, it’s hard to go wrong with the BMW 3 Series in its segment. And every now and again, the company keeps on making the case stronger for the car. Now, with the new, limited run Shadow Edition, BMW has added more style to the 3.
Available in both petrol (330i) and diesel (320d) versions, the Shadow Edition comes with an M Sport kit on the petrol-engined variant. The BMW 320d Edition Sport Shadow (who’s up for a game of jumbled words) is priced at Rs 41.4 lakh and the 330i M Sport Shadow Edition retails for Rs 47.3 lakh.
The biggest change in comparison to the regular version is the inclusion of dark-coloured elements on the outside. The exhaust end tips are covered in dark chrome and the kidney grille in black, and the LED headlamps get a darkened surround while the tail lamps are darkened, too.
On the inside, depending on the variant you choose, there’s a choice of upholstery choices and contrast stitching. The 320d gets a combination of wood and pearl chrome trim, while the 330i M Sport gets dark aluminium carbon and pearl chrome. The latter also benefits from extra ‘M’ bits. Exterior colour choices include the M-Sport-exclusive Estoril Blue, Sport-Shadow-Edition (diesel) specific Mediterranean Blue, Alpine White, Black Sapphire, and the lovely new Sunset Orange.
Most features remain unchanged for the most part in comparison to the top-spec trims. The 330i M Sport gets a variable sport steering, both versions are RWD, and the 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission is standard. Both cars use 2-litre, four-cylinder engines. The diesel makes 187.7 bhp and 40.81 kgm, and can manage a sprint of 0-100 kph in 7.2 seconds. The petrol engine is more powerful at 248 bhp and 35.71 kgm, and boasts a company-claimed 0-100 kph time of 5.8 seconds.
