The upcoming BMW 5 Series (internally referred to as G30) doesn’t just have new looks, it’s got thoroughly improved underpinnings as well. But improvements won’t necessarily mean a huge increase in prices, because the car will be manufactured locally. Actually, the production has begun already at the carmaker’s plant in Chennai.
Variant details and other specifications will be known at the day of the launch: June 29, 2017. The executive saloon rivals the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the newish Volvo S90, and the Audi A6. There have been quite a few changes since the time the outgoing 5-Series was launched: Merc has launched a long-wheelbase (only) model of the new E, Volvo has moved far from the boring S80 with the S90, and the SUV invasion has increased at an alarming rate.
But despite all of that, the 5 Series looks ready for the competition. Its not only lighter (by up to a hundred kilos), its long list of features abroad includes gesture control, remote parking, wireless charging, etc. The 2-litre petrol and diesel engines are likely to be made available first, followed by the six-cylinders ones, and eventually the M5 (which is yet to be launched globally).
