Making full utilisation of platform sharing, Datsun will soon launch a 1-litre engined version of its redi-GO hatchback. The three-cylinder engine, also found in the Renault Kwid 1-litre — with which the redi-GO shares its platform — will come mated to a five-speed transmission. Final power and torque figures are yet to be announced, and no official communication has been made regarding the chances of an optional AMT yet.
Other details of the car will be made available soon (we are driving it tomorrow), but you can pre-book one already, against a refundable deposit of Rs 10,000 from July 11 onwards. The deliveries will begin from July 26, 2017.
Just to give you an idea, the 1-litre engine’s specifications on the Kwid include a 67 bhp peak power. We expect the Datsun’s to be in the same ballpark as well. Other plus points on the redi-GO include a 185 mm ground clearance, high seating position, and affordable pricing.
Datsun India’s VP, Jerome Saigot said, “At Datsun, we are constantly striving to challenge the status quo and disrupt conventional thinking about the entry car segment in India. Today’s youth want a car that shows their personality with style, and redi-GO 1.0L is ready to meet their needs with more power and convenience. With the positive customer responses to the redi-GO and redi-GO SPORT, we are delighted to offer the redi-GO version with a more powerful 1.0L engine. The redi-GO 1.0L with the iSAT engine is an ideal package for customers looking for attractive design, power and performance.”
