The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched a revolutionary FASTag Annual Pass that could transform highway travel for regular commuters. For a single payment of Rs 3,000, users can now enjoy 200 toll-free trips across national highways for a full year, bringing the effective cost down to just Rs 15 per trip. This innovative scheme represents a major push toward digital payments while offering substantial savings for frequent travelers.  announced this game-changing FASTag scheme via his official social media handles, calling it a ‘transformational step for hassle-free and affordable highway travel in India.

The annual pass comes with several attractive features. It provides 200 single-way trips valid for 365 days from the date of purchase, works seamlessly at all FASTag-enabled toll plazas nationwide, and automatically deducts trips without requiring any manual intervention. Importantly, any unused trips remain valid, and the pass can be transferred between vehicles with certain restrictions.

As the table shows, the savings potential is enormous. While regular toll payments could cost between Rs 15,000-30,000 annually for 200 trips, the annual pass reduces this expense by 80-90%. The scheme is particularly beneficial for daily commuters, sales professionals, fleet operators, and frequent weekend travelers who can potentially save up to Rs 27,000 per year.

To purchase the pass, users simply need to log in to their FASTag wallet provider app (like Paytm or PhonePe), navigate to the ‘Annual Pass’ section, and make the Rs 3,000 payment. The pass activates automatically on the next toll crossing. However, users should note some important conditions: the pass is valid only for the same vehicle category, non-refundable for unused trips, cannot be combined with other discounts, and may get blocked for repeat speeding violations.

With over 8 million Indians making weekly highway trips, this initiative could become one of NHAI’s most impactful travel schemes since the introduction of FASTag itself. The annual pass not only makes highway travel more affordable but also encourages the continued adoption of cashless toll payments across the country’s growing expressway network.
