Ford has announced that the new Ford Freestyle crossover will be launched on April 26. The car might be based on the Figo but there are key differences between it and the regular hatchback variant. In addition to the intangible ones, the main change here is the inclusion of SUV-like styling — which of course comes with added ground clearance, too.
That may make the Ford Freestyle more appealing, and its underpinnings back the claim that it’s a new car. Ford has worked on the chassis, suspension, and even offered a new engine on the Figo-based crossover — or compact utility vehicle, as the company calls it. While the 1.5-litre diesel engine continues to power the car, you can also opt for a new 1.2-litre naturally aspirated, three-cylinder petrol engine. Both come with a new 5-speed gearbox, which is also lighter than before.
That’s the spec sheet sorted for you, but what about the features, you may ask. Apart from the new styling outside, there’s a revamped interior, too. A new 6.5-inch SYNC 3 touchscreen infotainment system is present, and so are features like Active Rollover Protection. There are two airbags standard across the range, while the range-topping variants get a total of six airbags.
India is one of the first markets where the Ford Freestyle is making its debut. The vehicle was also showcased alongside the updated Ford Ka+ at the Geneva International Motor Show. In the UK, the car will be sold as the Ka+ Active.
