The American automaker has submitted a letter of intent to the Tamil Nadu government outlining its plan. Ford’s return was discussed in a meeting between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and senior Ford leadership.
Ford will resume production at its Maramalai Nagar plant near Chennai, Tamil Nadu, which will be repurposed for export-oriented manufacturing.
The company will also retain its engine production facility in Sanand, Gujarat. However, details regarding the specific models to be manufactured have not yet been disclosed.
There has been no announcement regarding the resumption of Ford’s domestic retail network. Ford enthusiasts can breathe a sigh of relief, as this may signal the company’s re-entry into the Indian market. The exact timeline for this, however, remains uncertain.
