The Volkswagen group is pretty serious about entering the EV game. Its new MEB platform, which underpins the recently unveiled Skoda Enyaq iV, underpinst the ID.4 as well. In terms of size, the ID.4 slots in somewhere between the 5-seat Tiguan and the Tiguan Allspace. Since this is a proper SUV, it’s got an SUV-sized 543-litres trunk as well.
Under the ID.4’s floor sits a 77 kWh battery pack which powers a 201 bhp electric motor at the rear axle. It has a 0 to 100 kph sprint time of 8.5 seconds and will quickly max out at 160 kph. In the future, Volkswagen will also introduce a quicker all-wheel drive variant.
As far as charging is concerned, in 30 minutes of charge time at a 125 kW DC fast charger, the ID.4 will give you 320 km of range. And at full charge, the ID.4 is capable of a 520 km range.
Inside, it seems like Volkswagen’s sticking to a consistent pattern in the ID family. The interiors are pretty much the same as on the ID.3. What the ID.4 gets is a large touchscreen display, wireless smartphone charger and touch-sensitive buttons on its steering wheel among other things. In addition to that, it gets an Adaptive Chassis Control system that includes an electronic locking differential, adaptive dampers, driving modes and progressive steering.
There is a good chance that Volkswagen could get the ID.4 to India. It looks like the electric future is closer than we thought!
