Jaguar Classic has restarted production of the D-type race car at its Warwickshire-based facility. The special division will assemble 25 more of these in order to fulfil the original aim of manufacturing 100 D-types.
Following the production of the Lightweight E-type and XKS, the new D-type will also be built to original specifications from the 50s. The first of its kind, an engineering prototype of the D-type is showcased at Salon Retromobile in Paris.
The cars will be made either for private road or track use only, and can be specified in either Shortnose or the later Longnose bodywork. The latter includes a longer bonnet and tail fin behind the driver’s head among other changes.
Powered by the six-cylinder ‘XK’ engine (if you still wonder where the original Jaguar XK got its name, here’s the answer), the period-correct sports car can be a worthy addition to your garage. That is provided you have the liking for good things in life, and have a bank balance to support that.
