Kia India is gearing up to introduce its flagship electric SUV, the EV9, in India on October 3, 2024. Ahead of its official debut, we’ve uncovered the India-spec details of this large electric SUV, including its dimensions, battery pack, and notable features.
The India-spec EV9 will be equipped with a 99.8 kWh battery pack, offering a claimed range of over 500 km on a full charge. Powering all four wheels through a dual-motor setup, the EV9 delivers 384 bhp and 71.38 kgm of torque. For fast charging, the SUV supports up to 350 kW DC fast charging, which allows the battery to go from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just 24 minutes. It also features V2L (vehicle-to-load) technology, enabling users to power external devices using the vehicle’s battery.
At 5,010 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, and standing 1,755 mm tall, the Kia EV9’s dimensions give it a commanding road presence. It features a wheelbase of 3,100 mm, ensuring plenty of cabin space. While the design retains a boxy, SUV-like silhouette, futuristic elements like the digital lighting pattern integrated into the grille and vertically aligned LED DRLs (referred to as star map lighting) provide a modern touch.
The interior of the Kia EV9 reflects a minimalist design philosophy, featuring a black dashboard with dual-tone white and black leatherette seat upholstery. The tech-heavy cabin includes a triple screen setup — two 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment, flanked by a 5.3-inch climate control display.
Notably, the EV9 offers advanced comfort features like 8-way power-adjustable captain seats in the second row with massage functionality. Both the first and second-row seats come with a relaxation mode and leg support, making it a comfortable option for longer journeys. Additional features include dual sunroofs, a digital inside rearview mirror (IRVM), and virtually hidden touch controls for climate, media, and vehicle settings.
Safety is a key focus, with the EV9 offering level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). These include features like automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane keep assist. Combined with its electric powertrain, this makes the EV9 a technologically advanced and safe option for buyers in the premium electric SUV segment.
The Kia EV9 is expected to be priced starting around INR 1 Crore (ex-showroom). In India, it will compete with the likes of the BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, offering a more affordable alternative in the luxury electric SUV market.
We will bring you more information on the 3rd October, that is when it is getting launched.
