Kia Motors has announced that it installed the framework of new production facility in Andhra Pradesh today. The company also mentioned that they’re a month ahead in schedule and that the mass production will begin in the second half of 2019. The construction is planned to be concluded by the end of first quarter next year.
To produce 300,000 cars annually and operate the 214-hectare plant, the company will recruit 3,000 local residents. A joint training programme is likely to be run with the Andhra Pradesh government to train individuals for the job. Kia is said to be discussing that with the government at the moment.
Earlier this month, at the Auto Expo 2018, the company showcased its global line up and also presented the concept for the first india-bound product. The latter, called SP Concept for now, is a compact SUV, and going by the looks, has a great chance of doing well in the space.
Kia Motor Corporation’s President and CEO, Han-Woo Park said, “I believe Kia will bring amazing change and hope to both of the State of Andhra Pradesh and the entire India. We are here to build more than just great cars. We aim to set a new standard of automotive lifestyle experience by providing Indian consumers with world-class products and service, but also deeply engaging with the Indian people and giving back to the community whenever possible.”
